global promotions

What companies are you aware of that have offered global promotions or prize draws, where there is only one competition/prize, and people can take part from around the world, say UK and USA?

Great question. I can think of a number of examples of promotions that have targeted residents of both USA and Canada. In fact, iC Group has launched four such promotions in 2006 alone for it’s valued clients.
While it is common place for iC Group (and other promotional providers) to host promotions aimed at residents of both USA and Canada, it is rare to see a promotion targeting both the UK and the USA.

Product or promotion?

My company has recently launched a new service called ReturnIt . It is a simple way to return lost property. Think of all the cell phones, IPODs and cameras out there that get misplaced and it is a big problem. We launched it as a retail product but a number of people have suggested we might get more traction pushing it as a service a company might offer their customers, “as our valuable customer we are providing you with complimentary service.”

What do you think of this approach?

Without knowing the specifics of ReturnIt it is difficult for me to provide you with a detailed response. However, based on your brief question I would offer it as a service. I would target companies and offer to provide this service on their behalf as a value added to the consumers that purchase that product.


Be First to Play

I understand you won for the best promotion outside of the United States with ‘Be the First to Play’ for Pepsi and Xbox. Tell me more.

iC Group was awarded a PROMO Interactive Marketing Award for its work on the Pepsi and Doritos "Be First to Play" promotion.
The promotion ran from October 2 – November 10, 2005. It was supported by print, broadcast and internet media, and innovative in-store displays were featured at retail throughout Canada.
The promo offered the chance to ‘Win an XBox 360 every Hour’. A total of 960 XBox 360 prize packages were available to be won in sweepstakes draws that took place every hour throughout the contest period.
To enter, consumers purchased specially-marked Pepsi and Doritos products, obtained a website access PIN in pack and registered their information at the promotion site for the sweepstakes draws. Entries received were eligible for the next hour sweepstakes.
