Repeat Sweepstakes Rules
Posted on March 1, 2006

We’re repeating a sweepstakes we ran a few years ago…Do we have to pay someone to re-write the rules ,or can we just go with the same rules we used last time?

The rules for a promotion are like a contract between you and your audience. As such they not only spell out critical information about your promotion, they provide you with protection and limit your liability. At DJA we always review rules , even for promotions that are repeated from earlier in the year. Sweepstakes laws or the enforcement of those laws are constantly changing, and these changes may require changes to the rules, or even the way the promotion runs or who it's open to. Additionally, if your prize structure or the way you communicate the promotion changes, this may significantly affect your rules, even if your audience remains the same. So the short answer is yes...Have someone review your rules..but be sure they are experts in the area of Sweepstakes.
